Orihuela’s Palm Grove vibrates in celebration of World Environment Day<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hundreds of people came to the Palmeral de Orihuela last Saturday to participate in the activities organised by the Town Hall to celebrate World Environment Day, which is officially commemorated today, 5th June.<\/p>\n

The day kicked off with sport, with zumba by Urban Fitness. Afterwards, the children and their families were able to enjoy the inflatables, climbing wall, zip line, the different children’s workshops, as well as the palm tree planting workshop. Almost nine hundred were germinated. They are now in the greenhouse and those that succeed will be planted in the coming years.<\/p>\n

Around midday the day was officially opened by the councillor for the Environment, Guillermo C\u00e1novas, who was accompanied by the councillor for Social Welfare, Mari Carmen Moreno. The councillors, the head of the social work of Caja Rural Central, Lourdes Mart\u00ednez, and the director of the EASDO, Juanjo P\u00e9rez, presented the prizes for the II Palmeral de Orihuela Photography Competition. The winners of this contest were first prize for Alberto Calleja, second prize for Gerardo Cayuelas and in third place was Cristian Agull\u00f3. The EASDO winners were Yeray Bald\u00f3, Javier Murcia and Miriam Pastor. Afterwards, the exhibition, which will remain in the Interpretation Centre until autumn, was inaugurated, and there was an exhibition of palm tree climbing and white palm plaiting.<\/p>\n

In the afternoon, the fun continued for the children, but also for the adults who were able to enjoy the performances of Solar Djs, Deuve Djs, Instinto Primate and La Hornet until late into the night.<\/p>\n

At seven o’clock in the evening came the decision. The first prize of 1,500 euros was won by Blai Tom\u00e1s. The second prize of 750 euros went to Juan Gallego and the third prize of 500 euros was divided by the jury and two prizes were awarded to Fuensanta del R\u00edo and R\u00e1ul Ib\u00e1\u00f1ez.<\/p>\n

The awards were presented by the councillor for the Environment, the representative of Act\u00faa and the director of the EASDO.<\/p>\n

In addition to the winners, the jury chose 16 more works which will be exhibited in the Interpretation Centre, which is expected to see the light in about a month.<\/p>\n<\/div>
